Herpes Cure And Treatment

How Is Oral Herpes Transmitted

Oral herpes is transmitted through direct contact between the contagious area and broken skin (a cut or break) and mucous membrane tissue (such as the mouth or genitals). Genital herpes is a disease caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) , of which there are two types. Type 1 (HSV-1) usually causes oral herpes, an infection of the lips and mouth. Most people get HSV-1 (herpes simplex type 1) as an infant or child. If someone has a cold sore and performs oral sex, this can spread HSV-1 to the genitals and cause herpes sores on the genitals.

But even though HSV-1 typically causes sores around the mouth and HSV-2 causes genital sores, these viruses can cause sores in either place. In addition, if you or your partner gets cold sores on the mouth, the herpes simplex virus-1 can be transmitted during oral sex and cause herpes in the genital area.

Cold Sores (HSV-1)

Occasionally, oral-to-genital contact may spread oral herpes to the genitals (and vice versa). For this reason, people with active herpes lesions on or around the mouth or on the genitals should avoid oral sex. Herpes appear most commonly on the genitals or mouth. In cases of sexually transmitted HSV, people are more at risk when they participate in risky sexual behavior without the use of protection, such as condoms. HSV-1 is spread through contact with saliva, including kissing and mouth-to-genital contact (oral sex). HSV-2 is usually transmitted by direct genital-to-genital or genital-to-anal contact.

Oral herpes is an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. Because the virus is highly contagious, most people have been infected before adulthood. Herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in the U. HSV-1 is also spread by oral sexual contact and causes genital herpes. HSV-1 causes cold sores on the mouth, and up to 80 of the population has this virus. However, HSV-1 may also be transmitted to the genitals through oralgenital sex and about 40 of genital herpes is caused by HSV-1. Since HSV is transmitted through direct, physical contact, such as kissing and sexual contact, the best method of prevention is to avoid physical contact with the HSV sores when someone is experiencing an outbreak of the disease.

Oral Herpes Basics

Recurrent oral infection is more common with HSV-1 infections than with HSV-2. HSV-1 can in rare cases be transmitted to newborn babies by family members or hospital staff who have cold sores; this can cause a severe disease called Neonatal herpes simplex. Herpes is transmitted through direct skin-to-skin contact. For example, if you have a cold sore and kiss someone, you can transfer the virus to their mouth. Similarly, if you have active genital herpes and have vaginal or anal intercourse, you can give your partner genital herpes. ? Yes. Oral herpes is contagious. It is spread by direct contact with mucus or saliva, usually by kissing or sharing items with an infected person, such as eating utensils or towels. That’s oral herpes, almost always caused HSV-1 and contracted in childhood. HSV-1 spreads like wildfire among kids – it’s passed by the briefest skin-to-skin contact, as simple as one HSV-carrying child touching a sore and then another kid in class. Herpes Simplex Oral is usually the cause of oral infection. The two virus types are very closely related, but differ in how each is spread and the location of the infection. HSV-1 more commonly affects the area around the mouth, while HSV-2 is more likely to affected the genital area, but both viruses can affect either region. Oral herpes is a very common mouth infection caused by the Herpes simplex virus (HSV). HSV can spread to other areas of skin around the body such as the fingers, eyes or genitals (see Related topics). It is more common for oral HSV-1 to be transmitted to the genitals through oral sex, than it is for HSV-2 to be transmitted to the mouth. If a person has oral herpes (cold sores) , and performs oral sex on the partner, it is possible for that person to transmit the virus to the genitals from this action, and vice versa.
